Sin and our denial of our participation in it.

http://www.examiner.com/christianity-in-provo/me-sin-no-our-denial-of-a-fundamental-truth

Denial of our involvement in sin is a common procedure.  If we
distance ourselves from the sin of society of the sin of another
person, we then find ourselves clear of prosecution.  We also justify
our actions, regardless of what they might be, admitting that we
“never hurt anyone” or the act “was not as bad as that person’s” act.
I understand this philosophy, however I do not believe it is that
simple.  I believe God does hold us accountable to withhold our
beliefs, convictions and the Word in our lives and in our society.  I
believe we, as Christians, have been called to live life as He asks us
to, and that means living within the boundaries He has created in the
Word.
If we continue to live in denial of the consequences of sin, I
believe we are walking openly away from God.  The mere idea of sin is
a Biblical notion, meaning to separate us from God, or even to break
God’s rules, so to even acknowledge sin is to acknowledge Biblical
principles.  Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law
of God in 1 John 3:4 and rebellion against God in Deuteronomy 9:7and
Joshua 1:18.  I ask then, why then do so many people ignore the
consequences?  I believe if we are to take some information out of the
Bible and not others, we are doing an injustice to the Lord, His Word
and our lives.
As stated in Romans 6:23, “the wages of sin is death,” and as I
discussed earlier, there are different categories of death to keep in
mind.  However, I believe all three types of death, physical,
spiritual and eternal, are referred to in that verse.  There are also
Biblical references that refer to each type of death individually, and
I believe death to mean in a simple since of the word, separation from
God.  The consequence of sin is death, and since we die in a sinful
state, and God simply cannot be in the presence of such a state, we
are still to be separate from God, even in death.  Jesus is the one to
bridge the divide and He is the only way we are be with the Lord upon
our death due to our nature and His.
I believe the common root of sin is the desire or attempt to be like
God.  “How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the
dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the
nations! 13 You said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; I will
raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the
mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14 I
will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the
Most High.”
15 But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.”
(Isaiah 14:12-15)
“"For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be
opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."  (Genesis
3:5)
Sin was born with Satan and his desire to be like God, Isaiah 14:12-15
and he passed on that desire to Adam and Eve in Genesis 3.  I believe
when we attempt to be lords over our own lives, coupled along with our
innate sin nature, we encounter events within ourselves and others
such as jealousy, rage, sexual impurity, addiction and so on.  When we
surrender to Jesus, allowing Him Lordship over our lives, He is there
to assist us and take charge of the situation if we will let Him.  I
believe the actual process of letting Him is the issue that many
humans have, which could lead to pride and again, a vicious sin cycle.
