This is from Elder John A. Widstoe on Temple work. See if you can tell me what's wrong with this statement.
"Through obedience to the first principles of the Gospel, and a subsequent blameless life, a person may win salvation for himself. But in God's kingdom are many gradations, which lead to exaltation upon exaltation. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness and labor for the fulfillment of the promise involved in the gift of the Holy Ghost will advance farther than those who placidly sit by with no driving desire within them. Temple worship is an avenue to exaltation in God's kingdom."
1. Through obedience - To ALL the commandments. Remember there are well over 600 of them.
2. A subsequent blameless life - WHO can do that? That means a sinless life and only Christ can do that.
3. A person may "WIN" salvation for himself - WIN salvation? Like it's a prize at a fair? Christ paid for that salvation and it's not something to be won by our own good works. Seriously!
4. Exhaltation upon exhaltation - Ok. The doctrine of eternal progression? Does that mean that God can be a better God? What about Jesus? Can He progress too, into being a better, bigger God?
5. Temple worship is an avenue to exaltation in God's kingdom - What exactly about temple work is getting you closer to God? What happens in there that was NOT done by Jesus on the cross?
This is why the doctrines of Mormonism is so heartbreaking to me. And I found this on an online message board. The lady said she loved this whole section and that just makes my heart break.
